Description of Tool or App
LiveBinders provide an easy way to collect and organize resources online. This web tool allows users to view links as pages in a book instead of URLs on a page. Authors of LiveBinders may also combine uploaded PDFs and Word docs with links in one binder. In addition to creating your own binders, users can find Livebinders created by others and save them to a personalized shelf.

Benefits of Tool or App
  • Time-saver--Students will have quick access to approved resources for research. Teachers also will not have to waste repeating searches.
  • Accessibility--There is no password or log-in necessary to access a LiveBinder--authors need simply to provide the link to their page.
  • No distractions--There are no advertisements or other disruptive features that take away from academic merit.
  • Organization-- Tool allows users to organize websites under topic tabs and add documents and videos under those tabs.

Constraints of Tool or App
Like most tools, to receive all the benefits of the tool there is a fee for premium services. If users want more than one person to develop the binder at the same time, all collaborators must have a livebinder account; users cannot work offline. One interesting safety feature of the site can be found in the following statement: "Please do not enter personal email addresses for children under 13 as we are not allowed to collect this data. Please use school generated or teacher generated email addresses." While this is certainly an appreciated step in protecting young children, it could create extra time and work if Livebinder is to be used with younger aged students. Students may also be unimpressed with the lack of creativity and color in the web tool.

How To Use Tool or App

In order to create your first LiveBinder, teachers or students must visit the following link and create an account: http://www.livebinders.com/login
You will be prompted to create a login name using letters and numbers only, an email address, a password between 6-32 characters, and agree to terms of use and privacy policy. These steps are quite similar to any other web tool and should only take a few moments to complete. When all the information has been provided and boxes "checked," you will click the orange button that reads "Sign up now--it's free!" Once you have signed up for your free account, creating a binder is easy. Under Dashboard, click "Start a Blank Binder". Next, you will name your binder, add a description, choose to make it public or private, copy and paste URL's or upload documents, or Type in a search topic and search public binders.
